How to ensure well-being and make it a priority?

In this fast-paced and demanding world, neglecting our physical and mental well-being is easy. Many challenges overpower our self-care time. And we just let it go without making time for ourselves. So now, it is time for you to start looking out for your mental health and well-being.

This article explains how you can ensure your well-being and prioritise it without compromising your responsibility.

Practise self-care techniques

Self-care techniques include all those activities that support your mental health, physical health and emotional mindset. These activities may involve meditation, a hobby, eating healthy foods, or ensuring a healthy sleep routine. Practising self-care techniques can help you free up your mind from unnecessary worries and concentrate on giving yourself the best care.

Practise to say ‘no’

In an urge to care for others, you often forget about your health. With time, you also develop a habit of saying ‘yes’ to all the requests put forth by others. But, you must realise that to look after yourself and ensure your mental and physical well-being, it is crucial to say ‘no’. Especially at your workplace, you must be clear in setting boundaries and consistently finish the tasks.

Remember that you don’t have to put your mental health at risk just because there is no one to take up responsibilities.

Adopt to mindfulness

The best way to keep your mind calm is by practising various mindfulness techniques like yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises. Studies have shown that mindfulness techniques can help you reduce the symptoms of stress, anxiety, or depression caused by pressure at your workplace.

Connect with others

The ever-growing world of technology has pulled us into the world of social media, and this has immensely affected our other relationships. Long screen hours can increase our anxiety and stress levels and affect our physical health. If you reduce your use of gadgets, you can find time to spend with people around you. Maintaining strong social connections and connecting with like-minded people can make you feel mentally and emotionally content.

Make time for yourself.

Find yourself a hobby, something that you would like to do when you are free. It could be anything ranging from drawing, painting, gardening, sewing, pottery, among many others. Find your interest, and make yourself time to indulge in the activity you like, as this will help you keep your mind calm.

Replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

When stressed, negative thoughts automatically cloud our minds, amplifying as time passes. It can induce depression and anxiety. But, one can avoid all these simply by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.

For example, let us say you are waiting to attend an interview, and your name hasn’t been announced yet. In a situation like this, instead of thinking what the reason might be, or just enquiring about it, we instantly start thinking about various negative scenarios like ‘Maybe they are not satisfied with the resume?’, ‘Maybe they have already hired somebody?’ or ‘Maybe I am just not good enough?’. Negative thoughts like this affect our mental state.

Get professional help

Though there is always a way to help yourself, it is good to seek professional help. Attending therapy sessions will help you in finding out what is stressing you and affecting your mental health. With the help of an expert, you can explore and practice various coping mechanisms that will help you reduce stress and anxiety
